wonderful choral music.
Well-known husband-wife team to lead our conference this year
St. Peter’s Annual conferences over the past four years have developed a reputation for excellence both in organization and content. This year’s event, again scheduled for late November, is sure to maintain that reputation.
A husband and wife team — both of whom are widely known, and who have had a huge impact on the church across Canada — will lead the event. They are the Rt. Rev. Gordon Light and the Rev. Barbara Liotscos.
Gordon Light is the retired bishop of the Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior (British Columbia). He’s a well-known Christian singer and composer credited with several hymns in our hymn book and maker of several CD’s. His wife, Barbara Liotscos, is parish priest of St. Aiden’s in the Beaches area of Toronto. She’s also a theologian, thinker, and facilitator. Both are deeply spiritual. They don’t often undertake joint activities such as this conference so we are honoured.
Be sure to Circle November 26th and 27th, (Friday evening and Saturday) on your calendar and watch for further details of conference content and arrangements. |

Vision 2019
The national church wants to hear from all Anglicans about their vision hopes, concerns & dreams for the Church as we look ahead to 2019. The Anglican Church of Canada website is posting video clips, stories, ideas and dreams as they come in from across the country. Consider sharing your vision as a parish, as an individual. One priest in the diocese asked parishioners to write a prayer for the Church and collected them at the offering to send in. See: http://www.anglican.ca/v2019/yourstory/index.htm
Hello All -- From Christian Harvey,
I just want to let everyone know about some youth events that are happening in the area over the next few months.
First, October 3rd is the Diocesan Outreach Conference at Holy Trinity School in Richmond Hill. There is an exciting Youth Program planned for the day. We will here speaker Dion Oxford, Director of The Gateway Mens Shelter in Toronto, then watch the film Ordinary Radicals. It would be great to have youth from Trent Durham Participating. For more information go to the diocesan website.
Second, October 24th is Climate Day around the world. It is a day when people around the world will be calling their governments to take real action against Climate Change. Here in Canada the biggest rally will be at Parliament Hill in Ottawa where they are hoping 100,000 people will gather on the Hill to call our Government to take action. This is potentially the biggest event to happen in the history of Canada around climate change. We are looking to take a bus up to Ottawa from Peterborough on Oct. 23-25. We will be sleeping at a church in walking distance from the hill and will have some great stuff planned for the weekend. I need about 50 people to make a bus worthwhile. We would love to make this a Trent Durham Youth and Young Adult event. If you have any young people who you think would be interested in a such an event let me know as soon as possible. The cost will be around $75 and includes bus costs, food and other things. If we get enough people we can lower it. Attached is a poster
Third, on November 6-7th is the Looking Forward: Youth Leadership Training Weekend at Caterbury Hills in Ancaster. Looking Forward is a leadership training opportunity as well as a community building event for youth leaders (both paid and volunteer) across the province. Looking Forward seeks to provide a forum to offer training on current youth ministry practices, share resources and ideas, and build community and shared ministry among youth leaders.
- Many workshops offering practical skills and food for thought
- Experience different styles of worship
- Music from within - music ideas for those who don't have a rock band at their disposal
- Downtime and social times for rest and relaxation
- Forests, streams, waterfalls and trails to explore at Canterbury Hills
- Time to re-energize yourself
This event is for individual adult leaders as well as parish teams of leaders which could include youth members. We welcome leaders from across Canada but our primary target region is the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario which includes the dioceses of Niagara, Toronto, Ottawa, Huron, Ontario, Algoma and Moosenee.

Lastly, our Area Youth Retreat is coming up yet again. It will be February 12-14 2010 at Camp Kawartha just outside of Lakefield, Ontario. Please put this in your Youth Schedules.
Thanks

Good News
As you may be aware, there was an extension built on St Luke's that was dedicated by
Bishop Michael last fall at completion. It was finished on time and with a few added extras was only about $7,500 over budget.
They decided to meet the debt by issuing Faith Bonds and covered the whole debt in one session. I was advised today that they now have enough money that they are going to retire all the faith bonds this Sunday and pay them off. This is a small parish of about 35-40 families, with an average attendance of 12-15. With the new room they now have a Sunday School that is from 2 - 13 children every Sunday. They are an absolutely amazing group of people, with a deep and practicing faith life.
Great to have good news to share - God bless Jeanette Lewis
