On the first Saturday in March, the people of Trent-Durham were invited to come to our Area Day held at St Peter’s
Church in Cobourg. We had close to 300 people attend and it proved, once again, to be a very successful event.
There were workshops that ranged in topic from Stephen Ministry, the theology of U2, to presentations about trips
to the Holy Land. We heard presentations about Back to Church Sunday, the role of art in pastoral care, and
there were a wide range of activities for the youth and children.
The workshops were led both by clergy and lay people: and they weren’t all Anglican either. We were blessed once
again with some Lutherans who led a couple of the sessions too. The day concluded with a eucharist led by
the Rt. Rev’d Linda Nicholls who was drummed into the service by a group who ranged in age from 5 to 75.
We are grateful to the music group from St Paul’s in Pickering who not only provided some music workshops,
but led in the singing for the eucharist. It was a great day and as we overheard some discussions as people left,
those who attended had their faith deepened, felt excited about the church, and wanted to return to the
their parishes to try something new! We are all looking forward to March 2010!
